Our Commitment to Accessibility

Through our partnership with Glassboxx, accessibility is weaved into the way that our digital storefront and e-reading experience have been designed, with readers of every kind in mind.

Accessibility in our apps

The Fordham Press apps have used the most accessible DRM on the market to provide the basis of our solution, however the way in which we have used this to optimize user experience (UX) is what sets us apart. We have embedded our DRM in such a way that it goes beyond serving an essential function for publishers, to providing a UX that is redefining industry standards, with our significantly shorter customer journey.

As well as this, our apps are developed across 5 different platforms, including Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows, and browser, meaning that people of all demographics, from hobbyists to students, can choose from a variety of feature-rich apps to best suit their needs at any point. Key accessibility features of our apps include background color changes, highlighting and annotation, font size and font face changes, as well as all the usual features readers have come to expect—bookmarks, text lookup, sleep timer, play on lock-screen, and much more. While we are actively working on implementing these features across all versions of our app, some features are only available on certain platforms. Please reach out to our customer support team if you’d like to discuss which features are available on each platform.

Accessibility for our e-commerce and website

We are committed to a website that is accessible to all users. We follow industry best practices and adhere to recognized accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and the European Accessibility Act (EAA) to the best of our ability.

If you experience any accessibility barriers on a website we have developed, please contact the support team at fuphelp@glassboxx.com. and we will do our best to resolve the issue.

Our ongoing accessibility efforts

Striving to be at the forefront of accessibility means always aiming to be better. With this in mind, Fordham University Press participates in an ongoing accessibility roadmap led by Glassboxx. Our accessibility partners

Beyond this, we understand that accessibility is an industry-wide commitment. We have seen that accessibility is more than an add-on; it’s the difference between what is functional and what is intuitive. It is essential for reading, and the ways in which we consume reading materials of all kinds, to be intuitive for everyone. With this in mind, we have signed the PAAG Accessibility Charter as an ally, to show our commitment to the objectives of the PAAG, as well as becoming members of EDitEUR.

To ensure the most accessible reading experience, Fordham University Press strongly encourages the use of the ePub format where available. ePubs allow for reflowable text and advanced spacing adjustments that are not possible in standard PDF formats.
